Interior inspiration from Game of Thrones

With this season of Game of Thrones well under way, we can’t help but notice a darker theme to the interiors of our favourite houses. Gone are the luscious greens of Dorne and the vibrant flowers at Highgarden; this season is all about the dark greys of Winterfell and Casterly Rock – even Cersei’s previously bright chambers have taken on a gloomier tone.

It seems a day doesn’t go by without a new fan-theory or article about Game of Thrones, but a particular one caught our attention. Chief costume designer Michele Clapton revealed the source of the fabric for the heavy fur capes protecting our favourite characters as winter is coming – Ikea!

This got us thinking – whilst we can’t give you tips on how to make your very own Night’s Watch cape (Ikea have done this for us), we can offer some advice on how to inject a little bit of this popular show into your home.

Winterfell

Mayall Road, Brixton

We, like most people, have a soft spot for the wardens of the North. However, we’re not sure we could live in the same dark rooms as they do. Instead, subtlety is key here – think a grey feature wall or a faux wolfskin rug to give your property a Winterfell feel.

Braavos

Elm Grove Road, Barnes

Home to the Iron Bank, we have a feeling we may be seeing more of Braavos this season. Take inspiration from the Mediterranean city across the Narrow Sea and think clean block colours, complimented with fresh flowers, like this reception room.

King’s Landing

Spenser Road, Brixton

Furnish using reds and golds to give your property the regal air of The Red Keep. Add in crystal chandeliers, religious ornaments and rich crimson rugs and you can guarantee a Lannister would feel right at home.

Highgarden

Windmill Drive, Clapham

Home to the Tyrells, the clue is in the name for this house. Bring in outdoor plants, or opt for a gold leafed wallpaper like this property, to give your home the lavish feel of one of the most beautiful castles in the Seven Kingdoms.
